FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH CANCER AND DIABETES, LAUGHING HEALS
Besides Being Loads of Fun, Laughter Provides Very Wonderful Benefits!
NY, NY September 21, 2009
Jen French, a comedian, comedy producer and founder of a therapeutic humor foundation, is hosting a comedy night fundraiser to benefit The Best Medicine Comedy Foundation, Inc., an organization whose mission is to provide laughter and healing to individuals affected by disease. The event will be held on Saturday, October 10th at the Broadway Comedy Club, located at 318 W 53rd St. The admission to the fundraiser is just $20 (general admission, a tasting menu option is also available) and includes the silent auction and comedy show, which runs from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The show will feature the hilarious comedy of Karith Foster, Nick Cobb, Reese Waters, Linda Belt, Sassi Keegan, and Brian Jian. There will be many donated items for bid including fine art, theater tickets and services. The show is being recorded and will be later available for sale as a DVD and CD with a large portion of the proceeds going to distribute the content to people affected by disease.
“The benefits of laughter are numerous,” French said. “Published studies according to Loma Linda University have shown that laughing lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, increases muscle flexion, and boosts immune function by raising levels of infection-fighting T-cells, disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying antibodies. Laughter also triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, and produces a general sense of well-being”.
French founded the organization while participating in a Landmark Education leadership program (www.landmarkeducation.com) and after losing her mom and stepmom to Diabetes and Cancer respectively.
